Many consumers, especially those who do not have health insurance, may consider purchasing prescription medicines from an online pharmacy — both to save money and for the convenience of shopping online.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has published a new website, BeSafeRx, which seeks “to provide important information to consumers so that they can make informed decisions to safely purchase medicines online.”
The FDA BeSafeRx warns consumers of the health risks of buying drugs from fake online pharmacies, and how to avoid them. They advise to be suspicious of sites that offer drastically reduced prices, ship from a foreign country, or allow purchase of medicine without a prescription.
