report of a scientific study on pubmedcentral.nih.gov. Reports that hearing loss sufficient to impair communication is estimated to affect 25% to 60% of people over 65 years of age. In this study of older patients in a family practice, the researchers were surprised to find that 10 of 11 patients prescribed hearing aides needed a major re-adjustment or replacement of their devices when tested. This suggests that if a hearing aide is prescribed, it needs to be reassessed regularly.
