Family Caregiving for Patients With Stroke

Family Caregiving for Patients With Stroke — Review and Analysis,
Han and Haley, © American Heart Institute, Inc.

Reports on scientific studies done on the burdens on family caregivers for elderly stroke patients. Concludes that, “Evidence to date clearly suggests that stroke caregiving is highly stressful and leads to clinically significant depression in caregivers. Caregiving stress has the potential to hamper rehabilitation of the patients and is of vital importance both as a research topic and the focus of clinical care.” Calls for further studies to find the most effective interventions to reduce the burdens and depression of caregivers of stroke patients and improve the quality of life of stroke patients and their caregivers.
