Family Guide Series by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. Excellent 23 page booklet on skilled nursing facilities, their services, how to choose a facility, and how to pay for care. See particularly pages 18 through 23, discussing “The Family Member as Advocate.” While sections of this booklet were written especially for family caregivers of patients with Huntington’s disease, the discussion of The Family Member as Advocate is applicable and useful for all family caregivers of loved ones placed in a nursing home. Contains helpful tips on how to be an effective advocate for your loved one, opportunities to advocate,external resources, and visiting your loved one at the nursing facility.
