Working; Don’t assume caregivers can’t, By L.M. Sixel, Houston Chronicle, September 11, 2008.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued guidelines that make it very clear that bosses must treat all employees equally, no matter family duties. Employers can’t make assumptions that a caregiver can’t take a job that requires travel or other demands. Making such assumptions could put the employer in violation of “federal laws prohibiting sex, pregnancy and disability discrimination.” Even asking about caregiving arrangements may be a violation.
