Patient Rights, Cornell Law School, Legal Information Institute.

Search results of the Cornell data base of laws for “patient rights” lists several U.S. Code sections (federal statutory law), U.S. Supreme Court decisions, and Code of Federal Regulations Sections dealing with patient rights under U.S. law. These laws require medical providers (such as hospitals, medical facilities, home health care companies and other medical providers) to guarantee certain rights to patients as a condition of permitting those medical providers to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs and be eligible to receive payment for services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Similar patient rights guarantees apply to providers of Veterans medical benefits.
