According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “in 2010 there were a record number of shortages of prescription drugs, and … in 2011, FDA continues to see an increasing number of shortages, especially those involving older sterile injectable drugs.”
On Friday, September 30, the FDA will host an online webinar on Prescription Drug Shortages in the U.S., in which the agency will address the prescription drug shortages faced by our nation, and how the FDA helps reduce the impact of these drug shortages for patients and for the U.S. health care system.
The 30-minute webinar will start at 11:00 a.m. (U.S. Eastern Time) on September 30, 2011.
In the webinar, “An FDA expert will discuss the extent of the current drug shortage and the importance of communication among FDA, drug manufacturers, health professionals, and the public in helping to reduce the shortages’ impact on public health,” the FDA announced.
This webinar appears that it may be of particular interest to those in the medical profession and those in the pharmaceuticals industry, as well as to anyone interested in and concerned about the prescription drug shortages facing our nation and what the FDA is doing to address them.
